CARTER COUNTY TREASURER

The Carter County Treasurer’s Office is the collection center for county taxes. The office also receives various revenues generated by other county departments, motor vehicle title and registration transactions, and driver’s licensing fees. The Treasurer makes disbursements to cover bills paid by county warrant, bond payments or remittances to other government agencies. The Treasurer manages accounts receivable and is responsible for county and district schools investments.

Please be reminded that:
The 1st installment payment of Real Estate Property Taxes are due by November 30th of the current year.
The 2nd installment of Real Estate Property are due by May 31st of the following year.
1st half of Mobile Home taxes are due May 31, of the current year. The 2nd half payment of Mobile Home taxes are due by November 30 of the current year.

Personal Property Taxes: Due in FULL June 30th of the current year.

Post Marks are excepted.

Delinquent Taxes:

There is a 2% penalty and 5/6 of 1% of interest accumulated monthly to all delinquent taxes. 

Each August 1, all real estate properties with delinquent taxes from the year prior have a lien placed against the property. These liens are available for sale to the general public. Tax liens may allow for the assignee ( owner of the lien) to acquire ownership of the land.

Delinquent Mobile Home and Personal Property Taxes are subject to laws which require that a writ of execution be delivered to the Carter County Sheriff. The Sheriff may, in accordance with law, seize and sell personal property in order to pay the delinquent taxes. Writs for delinquent personal property taxes are executed in the fall, and writs for delinquent mobile home taxes are executed in the spring.

 Drivers License Exam Stations in Baker and Broadus require that you prepay for your driver’s license or ID card at the Treasurer’s Office prior to your appointment.
